BLANKET

I made a blanket witch is made with two different techniques, weaving and knitting. They are both really old and and did not change much. So i wanted to combine them to get on a surprising result and change the old techniques a bit. I wanted to make 3D shapes out of a fabric. While doing this I also played with the colours of the wires to make it extra 3D because of the contrast. I made a lot of try outs for how to connect these two techniques. The front with the waves is woven and the back with the white stripes is knitted. I first made the woven part and pulled loops out. Then I took the woven part of the weaving loom, and transferred it to the knitting machine. Then I started knitting and hooked the loops from the woven part on the knitting machine. This way I got the end result witch is a blanked. I made a blanked out of it because the fabric is really soft and cozy. I also wanted to turn an everyday object in to a functional art piece.

MAKING PROCESS

I made my own weaving loom so it would fit on my knitting machine. than I started with putting the thread though the loom so I could start weaving.

Then I started weaving and while weaving I pulled loops out so I could use them to knit afterwords.

After weaving I took the fabric of and transferred it to the knitting machine.

Then I knitted the blanked and then I was done!
