LAMPIES

For this project I made 3 lamps based on different neighbourhoods of the city of Rotterdam. All the lamps are hand made out of electric wire, witch are recycled.

The lamp Sara Termeijer is based on the neighbourhood Katendrecht. Earlier this neighbourhood was a place with a lot of prostitudes. All the sea met went here to go out. It was a very unsafe place to be. The black rubber wire, the red light and the print on the rubber expresses this wild night life. It is now one of the safest neighbourhoods of Rotterdam, were a lot of families with kids live. The copper wire witch is oxidised, expresses this safety. The wire is kitted and that is also very playful. 

The lamp Befgajes Maas is based on the neighbourhood Nieuwe werk. Back in the days this neighbourhood was a rich harbour. The knitted plastic wire expresses the old robes. It is orange and brown because those are typical robe collars. Now this neighbourhood is a place with a lot of lawers. It was not bombed during the war so there are also still al lot of old buildings. The copper wire expresses this chique and classic style. 

The lamp Pezen Hal is based on the neighbourhood Kop van Zuid. Earlier this neighbourhood was a place with a lot of import and export. All the little plastic rounds in the lamp form the shape of a map. This represents all the different countries were the boats went to. Now this neighbourhood is a place with a lot of skyscrapers, offices and hotels. The small rounds are all connected, these repent the small rooms that are in the skyscrapers. For example the offices and the hotel rooms.

Hal stands for Holland America Lijn, which left there.
